One of the absolute highlights of the trip we are taking to Colorado to attend the American National Planning Conference in a weeks time, will be attending a mobile workshop entitled ‘Boulder’s Balancing Act: Innovative Planning and Unintended Consequences’.
Boulder, located adjacent to the front range, is well known for its innovative planning policies. Laura and Mary will learn about the historic planning policies that have shaped Boulder, will experience the landscapes preserved by these policy efforts, and will hear about the resulting housing challenges and potential planning interventions such as zoning reforms, inclusionary housing policies and creative land use strategies utilised in Boulder.
This amazing opportunity to view the outcomes of these innovative planning policies whilst considering the unintended effects of the policies will assist us by giving us an insight into how these policies may work (or not work!) in New Zealand. We can’t wait! Only one week till we head off!
